Lake Santo, the largest of the Frignano area, is located at an altitude of about 1,500 m above sea level, nestled in the Apennine mountains near the border between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany.
Of glacial origin, the lake is fed by several underground springs of cool water. Shallow, but also good for fishing, especially in the summer is a destination for walks and excursions on foot or mountain bike. There are also some mountain lodges where to rest and relax.
All around the lake, the vegetation is very lush: in particular catches your eye the great beech forest that covers most of the eastern shore.
Near the lake, a few minutes away, there is also a convenient parking, but it’s definitely more exciting walk there along the trails marked by the local branch of Italian Excursionists Club.
Only in this way you can fully appreciate the spectacle of nature that surrounds it.
